Gaia Aloisi was born in Cagliari in 1995. After beginning her musical studies in her hometown, she devoted herself to the study of singing and composition, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Voice from the Haute École de Musique de Genève (HEM) and a Master of Advanced Studies in Contemporary Music Performance and Interpretation from the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana. She subsequently studied at the Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Milan with Alessandro Solbiati and at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Ivan Fedele, later specializing at the MDW – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Clara Iannotta.
In addition to receiving recognition in several international composition competitions, her original works have been commissioned and performed at festivals and events worldwide, including Music Biennale Zagreb 2025, Impuls Festival in Graz, the Wettbewerb für zeitgenössische Musik in Zurich, LuganoMusica 2023, Festival Nuova Consonanza in Rome, the International Low Flutes Festival in Washington DC, Mixtur Festival 2022 and Barcelona Modern Festival 2023 in Barcelona, Rondò del Divertimento Ensemble in Milan, Festival SpazioMusica in Cagliari, Festival Pontino di Musica in Sermoneta (Italy), Migros Kulturprozent Music Competition (2020) in Zurich, Società del Quartetto di Milano, Festival 5 Giornate di Milano, Musiikin Aika in Viitasaari (Finland), Festival Expresiones Contemporáneas in Morelia (Mexico), RED NOTE New Music Festival 2024 at Illinois State University (USA), Milano Piano City, the Institut für zeitgenössische Musik (IzM) in Frankfurt, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the concert season of Syntax Ensemble in Milan, and many others.
In September 2024, her debut opera Aqua Tofana received its world premiere at the Cockpit Theatre in London as part of the Tête à Tête Opera Festival. She has collaborated with numerous artists, ensembles, and orchestras of various nationalities, including Les Métaboles, Klangforum Wien, PinkNoise Ensemble, NAMES Ensemble, Riot Ensemble, Mdi Ensemble, Ensemble Dal Niente, Divertimento Ensemble, Syntax Ensemble, Ensemble N, AltreVoci Ensemble, Aulos Flute Ensemble, Spheres Ensemble, Ensemble Novecento of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Eccetera Saxophone Quartet, Amat Saxophone Quartet, Orchestra Antonio Vivaldi, Elena Casoli, Lise Baudouin, Maria Grazia Bellocchio, Elio Marchesini, Biliana Voutchkova, Ivana Nikolić, Maria Eleonora Caminada, Claudio Sanna, Elisa Prosperi, and many others, as well as renowned conductors such as Léo Warynski, Pasquale Corrado, Sandro Gorli, Gregor Mayrhofer, and Lorenzo Passerini.
Her compositions have been broadcast on various international radio stations, and her music—based on a writing practice that explores vocal gesture and the relationship between sound and body—has been commissioned and performed in international contexts. Her work draws on a dialogue between oral tradition, improvisational techniques, and contemporary writing, investigating the boundaries between gesture and sonic material. She is also active in the field of research and has collaborated with several academic institutions, including the Haute École de Musique de Genève, where she worked as a research assistant in 2021.
