Sofronia refers to Italo Calvino's invisible city of the same name: it represents the paradox – a city divided in half in which seriousness and play are opposed, and it is the latter that wins. The rapid and playful gesture made of staccatos and sudden dynamic explosions is contrasted with the austerity of a mild Bach quote, which however fades away to make room for lightness, just as happens in Calvino's work.
